I have written numerous times in this space about the Director’s Student Voice Forum, it’s creation and evolution, and it’s design to engage students their way. Every year WordPress puts forth a report for blogs that have their Jetpack plugin activated. This plugin allows for me to see statistics for the blog – how many times posts were visited, days of highest activity, etc. This year’s annual report blew me away. The site was visited 12,000 times in 2013. That’s astronomical! On top of that, the “What makes a secondary school a great school” topic was commented on 534 times in May 2013. In that month we held a board wide virtual student voice forum, completely online, for students in Grades 7 and 8. I am continually proud of the work we do around student voice and this year is no exception. As of this day alone, I have been the lead on no fewer than 8 student voice forums this year and I have had approx. 3,000 + students in front of me since September. The 3rd Annual Director’s Student Voice Forum is coming up on Feb. 27th, 2014 and we are expanding from 9-12 to 7-12. About 376 students will participate on Forum day at a central location and schools will be encouraged to hold their own forums in their schools on the same day. It’s going to be exciting. Can’t wait to see the stats next year!
